A Walking Injury or Something Worse?

Thank the stars for the Bakersfield chiropractor I eventually went to because I thought I was never going to be able to walk again. Walking is a big deal for me because I’m getting older and I spend most of my day and well into the night peering into a computer screen as part of my job. I don’t get a lot of time for serious exercise, so I always carve out an hour or so at night to stroll around the neighborhood. It’s not the same as hitting the gym, but it’s still better than nothing.

Recently I noticed something wrong with one of my feet. Basically it hurt. The pain increased in severity, too, although oddly enough sometimes the pain would totally drop off and I would feel fine. It got to the point, however, that I started taking days off from walking to see if it would clear up. Usually it would until I took another stroll and then it would come roaring back. The foot actually started to swell and the top of my foot actually felt like it was on fire. When the pain persisted and didn’t go away after a week, I knew I needed some help.

I ended up at the chiropractor and it was with a rush of relief that I learned I wasn’t going to lose my foot. I’m sort of joking, but you never know with these types of weird injuries. What happened is that my walking shoes needed to be replaced and I strained the tendons on the top of my foot. Also, I tied the laces too tight and that put additional pressure on the tendons. The chiropractor suggested I get new shoes and take a week off from walking. Sure enough that fixed the problem! Now I’m back to my nightly strolls.
